The name Bacalar, is of Mayan origin, "Bakhalal”, which means "Surrounded by Reeds”. This is a small town in the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico, situated 40 km to the north of the state capital, Chetumal.
Between the years 415 and 435 AD, the Mayas founded Sian Ka'an Bakhalal, known today as Bacalar.
Bacalar is officially one of the 121 magical towns in Mexico and lays claim to one the most beautiful treasures in Mexico, the lagoon of 7 colors which, without a doubt, will leave you breathless!
